MANTLE MADNESS..

Let's start this one off with saying that the word can be spelled Mantle or Mantel.  It normally just comes out mantle when I type so thats how you will see it most. lol

Okay, so after Christmas the mantle must be cleared and then redesigned....except this year Im having a really hard time.   Last year I didnt have a huge TV on top of it.

Even taking pictures of it is difficult because of that big black box.  Ive tried hiding it with decorative plant & stand and that didnt work so I just decorate around it!

WHO HAS A TV ON TOP OF THE MANTLE THAT INTERFERES WITH THEIR DECORATING????   What do you do?

Anyone?   I see all these pretty mantles and faux mantles on the wall....but guess what NO TV's!

I've gone crazy enough these past weeks and this is what Ive come up with so far......what do you think?

This area takes up the entry wall...I still need to put something above the mantle.  Im just not sure if Im going with mirror or art.

This is the mantle area

A tall apothecary jar (without lid) filled with rice and some tree branches from our yard. A wood/tin frame and a trio of balls for texture

A large HGs apothecary jar filled with fresh wintery pine cones from outside. A few books, cross and votive holder to finish off the corner.

I love my animal print J and I added some mason jars filled w/ brown rice and small olive candles. Some dark and light wrapped twig balls.

My HG plant stand turned table holds my lucky elephant (butt to the door always). And a trio of iron candlestick from Pier 1 (yrs ago)

Ive decided after doing all this designing and redesigning Im going to paint the fireplace because Im not fond of the oak at all!   Stay tuned for that transformation coming soon!

  1. You will love it painted. Mine was OAK too...I stained it a nice deep reddish mahgony...and we love it. Looking great though Melanie! Snow here like you can't believe.

  2. I think a good paint job is just what you need. Also, have you thought about keeping your tv above the mantle but mounting it a few inches above? This way you can have more space for simple candles or something on the ledge? I think that simplicity is best with a nice pop of color. Maybe a white mantle?

God don't like ugly! Neither do I...so if you dont have something nice to say.....keep it to yourself!
