TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY...BLAH BLANK WALL

What do you do with a blank wall in a nursery?    Go to Home Goods of course.   If ever Im in need of inspiration I go to HG.....so Sunday while out Junkin with my old friend Liza we decided we wanted to stop into HG and see what they had.

So we browsed the aisles and there was alot of Oooooo look at this, and Ohhhh I like that!  Of course I always check the clearance sections and on this day I spotted a wall decal.    I had purchased some mirrored ones on clearance after Christmas but this was a bird cage!

Hellooooooooooooooooo  I've been tweeking this nursery for almost a month now.   So I have been searching for vinyl wall designs with a bird cage them but I hadn't really found any that I was over the moon about.

Here is the before wall...you can see the blah blankness

This one appealed to me because it has a mercury glass/mirror effect and the goldtone kinda looks brown so I checked the price....$3.00 are you freakin kidding?     Of course I took it and I got home and up it went!

Here it is and I love it....but it looks so lonely, so what do I do now (this photo was taken around 7p.m. and its still sunny, but it's Sunday and HG closes at 8)

So I jump in the car and call HG on my cell (I have them in my contacts...yes I know I'm an HG addict and they're my supplier.lol)    She says they are in fact closing right at that moment.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH  so I explain to her what I just purchased and asked if she can grab me whatever bird cage designed wall decals are left.      She puts me on hold.....my heart is racing and she finally gets back on the phone and says....Hi I was able to find 2 for you!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I told her I would be there the next day, and so with the kiddos in tow today and sick as a dog from these allergies I went to HG and picked up my birdcages for $6.00

And....here they are now!

See how pretty the mirrored finish is....I love them!

There is a bird in the cage and also and extra for outside but that would be too matchy..matchy.   So I let them spread their wings......

One is perched above Mama's vision board

The other landed on the faux nest wall art that I made especially for the room.

I left just one bird out and about near the cages...

So a blah wall has been transformed again from one of my Home Goods clearance rescues!

This was the total of my original purchase :

decal - $3.00
birdhouse - $3.50
mercury bird candleholder - $3.00

YES....all under $10!

Even after the return trip for 2 more @ $3.each that only adds $6. for a crazy $16.00 total.    The wall still only cost me only  $9 of that $16!

I think Im going to start a New Jersey support group for Home Goods addicts....or I could be like Eddie Ross and give tours and give people ideas of what they can do with all the fab things they find.

HAHAHAHA....a girl can dream!

DO YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER.....

How about a box?    I have to tell you that when I got my Valspar FREE paint sample in the mail...I wasnt expecting this box.   It was filled with goodies but I thought to myself, hey this is a good box.

I like the sort of hinged opening style and with all the crafting and jewelry making and 5 kids, you know I can always use more storage.

So being the self proclaimed repurposing queen that I am (or choose to believe I am).    I grabbed contact paper and starting planning my transformation.

Here is what I used:

Valspar box
Contact paper
Scissors
Pen
Box cutter/Exacto knife

Cmon people can it get anymore easy than that......not rocket science but I sure felt like a genius!

Valspar Free Sample Kit box

After I emptied out all my goodies

My Dollar Tree scissors & fabulous toile blk/white contact paper

I just traced around the box.....cut and stick!

Here is the finished box....I think it's look pretty awesome!

Here are some finished boxes in my office closet.

Excuse the short post today.....but allergies have me not feeling myself!

WHERE SHE WILL DREAM SWEET DREAMS.

I'm a Craigslist addict and always have my eye out for treasures.   This is one that I found last year, but didnt get to it until last month.   It's an antique childs bed and the moment I saw it I had to have it.

FRIDAY FINDS....BACK TO THE BASICS!

For those of you who read regularly or know me personally.   You know I love junk!   Im a huge follower of the theory that one man's junk is another woman's treasure.

I have always dreamed of owning a shop where I can sell my refurnished furniture pieces, repurposed /recycled items along with handmade items for the home.  Throw in some vintage-style jewelry and I will have my self a dream shop.

I have a garage filled with items that I am planning to refinish as the weather cooperates.   Smaller items I will list and the big ones...not sure yet.

Im hoping to be in South Carolina by the end of the year, so maybe I will just bring these treasures down south and find a little spot in an antique mall.   Baby steps to get to the top of the big mountain.

So this week....here are my treasures.

Quilt rack, scratched up Queen Anne console, antique side table, vintage chalkboard

Im so in love with the vintage door I dont know if I can put it up for sale.

However I still have these beauties to refinish first.

DO YOU HAVE A SPOT

Do any of you have a spot?  You know that spot that you love to go to but can't go often because it's not close to you.   But you will be at home and you can taste your favorite meal.   Well this is my spot!   It's called The Hot Spot.....and they have the most amazing empanadas Ive ever had.

I only get to go here when I go to my hair salon because it's next door.....but I stop in everytime and bring an order of empanandas home for the Big Daddy and kids.

This past weekend I went up North NJ to meet my sister and our salon and we decided to get some lunch.  My sister hadn't been there before and I needed to share my love for their empanadas and their decor.

I took lots of pics because I love the funky style of this place.   Good decor, great food and very friendly owners makes for a great combination.  Hoping they will open another spot down by me soon.

This is the left side of the spot
