CUCINA TREE..

Every Thanksgiving weekend... I pull out my 20+ tubs of Christmas decor.  I try to do a different theme every year.  But one thing I  always do is to create a new Christmas decor piece and also to use family pieces throughout the house.

This year I used my Nonna's eucalyptus tree and then went into my box of her father's old baking tools.  They had a bakery back in the 1930's in Brooklyn New York.   I decided to use the cookie press discs again as ornaments, I also added some of his vintage icing tips and then to top off the tree.  An awesome piece with a RED handle.  Red/Pink mini cupcake liners just for a little holiday pop of color.

Here are the supplies for my baking themed family tree.   Cupcake liners, Vintage Tips, Vintage Cookie Discs, Italian linen towels (cut in strips)

Che bella!    I love this tree like this and think this will be a permanent tree in the collection.

How is your holiday decorating coming along??

THRIFTY THURSDAY....Ricordando il mio Nonni

Well...Thanksgiving is next Thursday!!!  Can you believe it, well I guess you can.   From working in retail for years Im so use to being a season ahead, however my family & friends find it funny that I already have my tree up with lights on (no ornaments yet tho...that happens the weekend of Thanksgiving!

I thought I would share with you a thrifty idea for Christmas.    Last night I was photographing holiday items for the shop and this is a little vignette.

This tree is from my Nonna's house and it smells of eucalyptus...It actually goes in the kitchen.   Her father, my great grandfather Nonno Nicola was a pastry chef and owner a bakery in Brooklyn back in the 1930's.    I love my family heritage and tradition so this year again in honor of him..... I took some vintage cookie press discs and tied them onto Italian Linen clothes all cut up.

Perfect little culinary display for the holidays

You could use colored ribbon or twine too.

I think it's a thrifty little idea with a lot of meaning!

BUON NATALE......Ricordando il mio Nonni

Stay tuned for sneak peeks of items that will be at my Holiday Boutique, December 9th at Lucky 7 Design studio.

THRIFTING THURSDAY.....SHOP CLOSING

My sweet crafty mother has been telling me about this little shop by her house in South Jersey and how the lady is now going out of business.   Everything is now 50% off, so while visiting my mother on Wednesday I decided I would stop in and see what this shop had to offer.

It was a quaint shop filled with little vignettes and treasures.  Some good antique finds and some new hand-mades.   A true great mix of a good stuff in a shop, sad that it is closing but great deals to be found.

I started browsing with my mom, we talked a little bit with the shop owner about Etsy and I told her she could probably have a thriving online business on Etsy with whatever she has left over after the closing.

So here is what I came home with yesterday, and needless to say that Im thrilled with all of my finds, truly good stuff!

This is my take home stash

They are clay Halloween ornaments....so sweet.

I adore these canisters and they are so heavy.

This lovely collection is for my peacock tree, how amazing that I found these colors in a rubbermaid tub of Christmas ornaments that were red, green, white, gold.

The owner truly listened when I told her I was doing a peacock tree this year and she came out of her flower shop section with this box of feathered friends!   IM IN LOVE..

These are snow men clay ornaments and they are so sweet.  I might list some in my shop for the holidays!

Another Ball jar for my collection.  I now have 2 blue & 2 clear in tall / short sizes.

That is my installment of Friday Finds and I'd say I found some good stuff.  I already have a list of things that I saw but didn't get....they will probably be in next weeks post!

SATURDAY INSPIRATION...

I have been brainstorming for my holiday decor all week.  I think as soon as November 1st comes I'm in holiday decorating mode.

I had an idea a few months back, while not an original idea by any means but one that came to me none the less. Then I Googled it..........................HA!    Tons of ideas and images showed up and I was happy and sad.  Happy that my idea wasn't completely insane, sad because it had been done before!

Your wondering what my idea is right? Well ..a Peacock Christmas Tree & Holiday Decor!

For those of you who follow my blog you know I have a somewhat exotic styled living room with animal prints and greenery and an eclectic collection of accessories.   So when making my jewelry one day and using peacock  feathers I thought it would be a fabulous idea.

I'm going to share with you my favorite tree that came up in all the hundreds of images on Google.

It is beyond gorgeous!

If it looks familiar to some of you, it's because it's the tree of Artie from Color Outside the Lines blog.  He is so talented and I've been a follower of his blog since I started blogging myself.

I'm very excited to try my peacock theme out and hope I can make it as fabulous as Artie's masterpiece.

Stay tuned...but for now here is a little sneak peek of my inspiration basket that Ive started....I'm sure I will have to trade out the basket into a crate of Rubbermaid tub in the next couple of days!

Just a few things I have put together and will soon make it to the tree along with some additional beauties.

STAY TUNED!

VINTAGE BEAUTIES IN THE ETSY SHOPPE

Christmas is my favorite holiday and as I previously posted I have over 22 tubs of Christmas/Holiday items.  These items have a few collections within ....one of which I decided I need to maybe let go of finally.

I have vintage glass ornaments....most of which I believe are American made.    I have sets of ornaments still in their original boxes in great condition.   I also have a collection of loose ornaments that I have paired up some into trios.

I am taking photographs and pricing for my Etsy shop now, but here is a sneak peek for those of you who love Christmas candies.

Beautiful pink ones sold in half dozen boxes

Again pink beauties sold in one dozen boxes

Assorted selection of ornaments

Glass horns w/ handpainted detailing

Loose ornaments

Loose ornaments

More loose ornaments (i have them sitting in rice so they wont break)lol

These are vintage ornaments not reproductions...they are in the original old boxes with original hanging hardware.

Here is some information on the maker of these ornaments....who's name is marked on all of the packaging.  If you are a collector or are interested contact me via email at lucky7design@yahoo.com.  Or via FB or Twitter....

An American businessman named Max Eckardt introduced Christmas tree decorations imported from Germany to the US around 1907. The ornaments consisted mostly of small hand-blown glass balls that were colorfully decorated. Late in the 1930s though, it was plain to Eckardt that the oncoming war was going to disrupt his supplies. So he made a business arrangement with the Corning Glass Company that got them started on Christmas ornament production in their light bulb plants. Corning started making the glass ornaments after adapting their own light bulb manufacturing process and proceeded to ship ornaments to both Woolworth's stores and to Eckardt's factories where the plain ornaments could be further adorned by hand after being machine-lacquered.
As the wartime shortages increased, making both lacquer and silver difficult to come by, Eckardt started having the ornaments decorated in pastels and bright colors. As a result, Shiny Brite ornaments became very popular because of their uniqueness and soon become a staple of every family's Christmas trees. By the end of the war, Shiny Brite was the largest manufacturer of Christmas ornaments in the world and the popularity of the ornaments raged on into the 1950s.
Shiny Brite stopped making and selling the glass balls in 1962 because of production disruption and because of the changing business landscape and moved into the production of plastic ornaments, which never proved to be as popular. But now that we are in the 21st century, demand for the original vintage glass ornaments has shot up and you'll find many "Shiny Brite" ornaments all over Ebay.
One thing to keep in mind though when shopping on Ebay for these ornaments is that many sellers and buyers seem to think that "Shiny Brite" refers to a type of ornament rather than a specific brand name. So if you are looking specifically for ornaments made by Max Eckardt's company, you might want to do a little digging into the auctions.

HOLIDAY DECOR......THE ARTIFICIAL TREE

This year we decided on having 2 main Christmas trees in the house since we now have the room.  The standby artificial one I purchased in 2008 when my husband was deployed (just didn't want to deal with the hassle  of real one without him there) will be going downstairs in the family room. Well its actually decorated as a Dallas Cowboys football room. (post on this room coming for Superbowl)

We are having a tree-trimming party and the kids and their friends will decorate the tree.   However, I'm not nuts and turning over all my ornaments.   So I put a huge assortment in a big Rubbermaid tub for them to dig through and hang on the tree.

Here are some of the highlights from our party.

Here are my 2 daughters showing the decorating skills.

My daughter was loving stringing every type of garland I had available.

Tazia is putting on the finishing touches.

My Maya is playing tag w/ her bestie Derrick..they had a blast

Here is the kids tree...without the skirt and the train somehow was moved...lol  Notice the 2 little ones in the background stuck on the tv.

Baby "Bugga" was all over so we took out the Bumbo. lol

My son playing video games & kiddos watching

Good ol' game of Ms. Pac-Man...love these kids. This is the playroom side of downstairs.

Another shot of the decorated tree....this time the Daddy's have changed the tv to football. lol

The adults admiring the kiddies do their decorating thing.

This is an older pic but kinda what the room looks like on a normal day.

This is my husbands wall of fame from football days..those pics in the frames are of him.  We moved the mean guy and put the tree to the left of the wall.

This is my husbands favorite thing to look at on any given Sunday.  I decorated this area but with all the hoopla, didnt get a chance to photograph it.
