WORD WEDNESDAY.....ART ON THE CHEAP...

Very rarely am I wordless.....so let's try something new this week.

Most of you know....I love me some burlap.    I recently gave some to my sister and she did an awesome typography project for her living room.

(my sister's work)

Well you know I had to give it a try cause I also love me some letters and typography.

Here is what you will need:

Burlap bag, feed bag, burlap material
Craft paint
Wooden letter magnets

These are my supplies...yep 3 things

Here is the final product...it was made for a friend.

I mean it really doesnt get much easier than this....I picked my main word FAMILY and then just worked their names out of it.    Kinda Scrabble-like! lol

I decided to use the magnets and not a stencil because it's easy to see this way and you dont risk getting paint elsewhere as if you would moving stencil around (I hate that )

This could really be done with any fabric or even paper, but I just like the look and its a great piece for the home.

WHAT DID I MAKE WEDNESDAY...... WITH BROKEN FRAMES

I had purchased these frames somewhere long ago and the glass broke on one so I removed it from the other.    I liked the frame and its bead board style and in that creamy gray beige color but was holding on to them until I thought of a project for them.

Guess what.....I finally did.  I have an abundance of burlap, thanks to my fabulous husband Big Daddy J so I decided while setting up my little desk area in the nursery that I would use them in there.

So here is what I gathered up:

The glassless frames
Scrap of burlap
Personalized tags from Etsy shop owner
Push pins

That's less than 5 things

The frame

Add the scrap of burlap

Place the personalized tag (thanks to Sally @ alittlescrapy.etsy.com

Secure with push pin

Here it is in my new craft space in the nursery (i know, a mother's sacrifice)lol

I had 2 frames so I made a second one and hung them vertically next to my vision board.  I mean really I bet any one of you can run to your craft closet and make one of these with the supplies you have inside.   A pretty fabric would work just as nice!

BIRTHDAY & CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN

I've been busy whipping up some goodie bags for my daughters school friends because she turns 4 on Monday and this will be her 1st birthday she can celebrate at school. (she only started last year after her 3rd bday)

She is a huge Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan so we are going with a Mickey & Minnie theme.  Here is a sneak peek the party is on Saturday afternoon so I will be sharing the photos probably Sunday/Monday.

Have to tell you what fun is what doing Mickey Mouse...my husband and I were saying how he's such a classic and gets forgotten with all the new characters and tv channels.  So glad my little girl likes the classics.

Kids usually hate to wear party hats so I came up with this lightweight headgear.  Mickey & Minnie ears! So easy to make but I will still post a little party craft tutorial. And of course photos of my little mousekateers!

These are the party bags...since she is born on the 20th we usually include Christmas theme in her bday as well.  So we used Santa bags filled with 1 pkg of candy, kazoo, magic reindeer food, mini candy canes Mickey crayons and a Christmas ornament personalized.  I also included Mickey coloring book with a beanie baby.

HOLIDAY CRAFT.....MAGICAL REINDEER FOOD

Okay this is easy & and quick so its a no brainer.     I love the idea of children believing in a magical Christmas and Santa and his reindeer landing on your roof, lawn, condo whatever. lol    So this is cute for anyone to give to the little ones in their lives.

 You will need the following:

plastic snack/sandwich bags
oatmeal
glitter
printed out version of the poem (see below)

Magical Reindeer Food

Inside this special package is a treat
but not for you!
It contains magical reindeer food
and here is what you do.
Sprinkle this magical reindeer food
carefully on the ground.
And tonight if you are lucky
Santa's reindeer will come around.
But here's a secret I have to tell,
one you must try to keep.
That Santa's reindeer only come
when you are fast asleep.
So quickly put your jammies on
and get a story read,
Then sprinkle this magic treat outside
and the reindeer you will feed!

Throw them all in a bag and shake, shake ,shake....shake, shake, skake!  That's it, the kids get so excited to go outside and do this.   It's just a cute little tradition, like leaving cookies for Santa.  Reindeer need to eat to!

Sandwich bag filled w/ oatmeal and glitter

Printed Reindeer poem

Finished project ( you can dress it up but this was going into a goodie bag)

So much going on so this was a short, sweet and simple submission.

A WEEK OF THRIFTY PROJECTS......ONE FRUGAL FRIDAY TO THE NEXT.

So as the mother of 5, let's just say I dont have a big budget to buy all the fabulous accessories that I want.   Lucky 7 Design is based on the motto to use what you have and if you cant use it anymore in its current state then make it into something else.

So all week I will be doing little projects that are made from items in my home that I either bought and haven't used anywhere or just don't want to keep them where they are right now.
These are Goya bean cans (yes we eat alot of rice and beans in this house) mostly black but I use red for my chili.    So Im a big fan of recycling and I teach my children to do the same.

When I was getting my dining room ready for the Halloween season....I decided on a black, gold, purple white color scheme.  I needed black candle holders, I didnt want to want to paint the iron ones I have in there because they have such a nice patina to them and really match any decor.  So I was on the hunt to make my own......

Supplies:   Goya bean cans (empty & washed)  Black spray paint

Give a nice coat over the cans

Turn upside and use a small 3" candle (works best)

This is wear it resides now
